Hurricane Sandy brought a destructive storm surge to New York City on the evening of October 29, 2012, flooding numerous streets, tunnels and subway lines in Lower Manhattan, Staten Island, Coney Island, the Rockaways and other areas of the city. The super storm cut  off electricity to parts of the city and its suburbs and closed most subway and commuter rail lines. Subway tunnels and the Queens and Broolyn-Battery Tunnel were also flooded. Hundreds of thousands of spectators lined Fifth Avenue Sunday, October 14, 2012, for the 49th annual Hispanic Day Parade. Organizers estimate more than 10,000 people took part in the parade, which featured the music and costumes of various Spanish-speaking countries. NYC Photo News covered the action. The 75th annual Pulaski Day Parade was held on Sunday, October 7, 2012 under rainy skies in midtown Manhattan. The parde made its way up Fifth Avenue as hearty fans cheered the many floats, marching bands, and Polish-American groups. The Korea Times Parade was held on October 6, 2012 on Sixth Avenue. Organized by the Korean Association of New York and sponsored by the New York Hankook Ilbo, a sister paper of The Korea Times, the parade featured colorful floats, marching bands, local Korean organizations, and cultural and arts troupes.
