Mermaids Waiting for the Parade to Begin
This year's Mermaid Parade in Coney Island was on Saturday, June 18th. Officially, the Mermaid Parade “celebrates the sand, the sea, the salt air and the beginning of summer, as well as the history and mythology of Coney Island,” not to mention individualism, artistic self-expression, and partial nudity. And, of course, whenever there is nudity there will be photographers--so many of them that it was almost impossible to take a shot without getting a photographer in the background..

The parade started at 2 pm and was finished by 3:30 pm. Our photographers were there from 11 am onward and captured lots of good preparade shots. Here are some examples. For from this year's parade and past parades at www.nycphotonews.com
